Structure/Function:
Frogs are a kind of small animal belonging to a group called vertebrates (animals with backbones) known as amphibians. This mean that they live part of their life in water and the other part of it on land. Amphibians are cold-blooded animals. This mean that their body temperature is the same as the surrounding temperature. Their skin absorbs water into their body so they do not have to drink water to survive. Examples of other amphibians are salamanders and caecilians. Frogs have strong hind legs to enable them leap forward at a great distance.
Ecology:
Frogs are considered a cornerstone species. They eat a wide variety of insects and fish. This helps regulate the amount of animals in the ponds and creeks where the frogs live. The frogs also are a very important food source to many different animals. If frogs are removed from the ecosystems, many animals will die from lack of food.
